The Gay Men's Chorus of Washington brought a night of soulful celebration to the Lincoln Theatre as part of the region's Pride festivities. The annual Pride show, titled 'Soul Divas,' paid homage to some of music's most iconic women, drawing on the legacies of Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross, Gladys Knight, and Whitney Houston.

A tribute to vocal legends

The performance showcased the chorus's talent for bringing beloved hits to the stage with a fresh energy. By centering the music of these trailblazing singers, the show celebrated not only their artistry but their cultural impact. Many of these artists, particularly Whitney Houston, became icons within LGBTQ+ communities, making the selection a natural fit for a Pride celebration that honors both queer culture and the broader legacy of Black women in music.

Pride on stage and in the streets

The Lincoln Theatre performance was one of several Pride events that drew the D.C. region's LGBTQ+ community in early June. The celebration reflects the ongoing momentum of Pride season across the Washington area and beyond, with performances, festivals, and parades marking the occasion in venues and neighborhoods throughout the region.
