Grindr has agreed to pay £26 million to settle a UK lawsuit brought by roughly 12,000 users who allege the dating app shared their HIV status, testing dates, and other sensitive information with advertising companies.
A Two-Year Fight Reaches Its End
Austen Hays filed the claim at the High Court of England and Wales in April 2024, alleging Grindr breached UK data protection law by sharing users' HIV status, whether they took medication like PrEP, and the dates of their last tests with third-party advertisers.
