Nicholas Galitzine, fresh off starring in the He-Man origin film Masters of the Universe, has landed a role in an upcoming biopic about pioneering male supermodel Hoyt Richards, with acclaimed director Gus Van Sant in negotiations to helm the project.

Who is Hoyt Richards?

Richards, 64, is widely recognized as the world's first male supermodel. Rising to prominence in the 1980s, he became the face of luxury brands including Versace, Valentino, Ralph Lauren, and Donna Karan, working alongside legendary photographers such as Bruce Weber, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, and Steven Meisel. Beyond modeling, Richards ventured into acting, appearing in films like the 1998 rom-com Six Days, Seven Nights alongside Harrison Ford and Anne Heche.

The cult years and escape

Richards became entangled with The Eternal Values, a cult whose leader targeted male models and wealthy young people, manipulating them into donating money and severing family ties. Richards reportedly gave millions to the organization before escaping in 1999. Since his exit, he has become an advocate for cult awareness. His experience with the group is the focus of the three-part HBO documentary Bring Me the Beauties: A Model Cult, which premiered on June 1.

Galitzine's rising momentum

Galitzine, a Canadian actor, first gained widespread attention playing Prince Henry in the queer romance Red, White & Royal Blue. He recently wrapped filming on its sequel, Red, White and Royal Wedding, expected to arrive on Amazon later this year. He also appears in Pete Berg's upcoming WWII sports drama The Mosquito Bowl. Van Sant, known for films like Drugstore Cowboy and My Own Private Idaho, earned Best Director Oscar nominations for Good Will Hunting and Milk, his acclaimed biography of activist Harvey Milk.
