A restaurant and bar in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware has been fined twice in the span of a year after state civil rights officials found it barred transgender women from the women's restroom and used ID checks to police who could come inside.

Two Complaints, One Pattern

The trouble at the Hideout traces back to April 2023, when Kaitie Sorber, a regular at the bar's weekly karaoke night, was confronted by employees while trying to use the women's restroom. She says she'd used that restroom without issue for months. This time, staff pulled her aside because her driver's license, which she has not updated to reflect her gender identity, still listed her as male.
