Hegseth's Pentagon has pushed active-duty transgender service members to self-separate within 30 days or face forced discharge, a policy that has already left at least one former National Guard member homeless after receiving a fraction of a promised severance. Meanwhile, Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll resigned this week after reportedly warning that leadership churn was hurting readiness, and General McChrystal has publicly called the transgender separations "a mistake."

McBride isn't a bystander here. As the first out trans member of Congress, she has a direct stake in policies stripping trans troops of their careers. Her impeachment call is a political long shot, but it names something worth naming: a defense secretary confirmed by the thinnest possible margin now presiding over an exodus of the very people meant to keep the military strong.
