Milo Yiannopoulos, the former Breitbart provocateur who spent years cheerleading the same immigration crackdown that just swallowed him, is back in the United Kingdom after U.S. agents arrested and deported him within days, the result of a MAGA-on-MAGA turf war that at least three right-wing figures now claim credit for starting.

From Breitbart Star to ICE Target

Yiannopoulos entered the U.S. legally in May 2019 but overstayed his visa, and an immigration judge issued a final removal order on July 22 after he failed to show up for a hearing. That's a meaningful distinction: this wasn't simply an expired stamp catching up with him, it was active noncompliance with the court. Once famous as a flamboyantly gay conservative provocateur at Breitbart News, he flamed out there in 2017 after old audio surfaced in which he appeared to defend relationships between adults and underage boys. In the years since, he announced he was no longer gay, downgraded his husband to "housemate," and drifted from Breitbart-era Trump loyalist toward advising Marjorie Taylor Greene and, later, Ye ahead of the 2024 campaign. He's also on record last year calling for aggressive immigration enforcement, including ICE checkpoints at supermarkets, a position that makes his own removal land with a certain grim irony.

Everybody Wants Credit

According to Mother Jones' reporting on the episode, the push to get Yiannopoulos deported wasn't one person's crusade so much as a pile-on. Laura Loomer says she's been reporting him to ICE and the FBI since 2024 and is now demanding the Department of Justice investigate Marjorie Taylor Greene for allegedly hiring and housing him as an unauthorized immigrant. Benny Johnson, who Yiannopoulos had threatened to publicly out in a feud last year, says Loomer personally warned him off suing Yiannopoulos because he was already "running from ICE like a rat."

Raheem Kassam, a former Breitbart UK editor who once worked alongside Yiannopoulos, says a State Department contact tipped him off weeks in advance. "I got word last month that he was about to be deported," Kassam wrote. "On Thursday night, I got a call. As overly dramatic as it may seem: 'We got him. In Louisiana.'" Whatever the exact chain of tips, Yiannopoulos himself seems to accept he was targeted from inside his own political world.

A Cold Welcome Back Home

Yiannopoulos rose to prominence in Britain before crossing the Atlantic to build his American media career, and his return hasn't exactly been triumphant. A GB News source told the Guardian the network "wouldn't touch him with a barge pole, not in a million years," adding bluntly that he appeals to an American audience because "it's a bigger country and you have a bigger pool of fruit loops." Reform UK is also reportedly unwilling to let him join the party, though he's been publicly courting Restore Britain leader Rupert Lowe, calling him "fantastic" and warning Reform's Zia Yusuf online that "you're gonna lose all your votes to Rupert." Kassam predicts Yiannopoulos will resurface somewhere in British right-wing media, "perhaps as an adviser to Rupert Lowe, or perhaps as a contestant on some third-tier reality TV show."

Worth Considering

Trump's border czar Tom Homan has pushed back on suggestions that Yiannopoulos got special treatment, insisting ICE simply carried out a judge's standing removal order. Still, unlike the many detainees who sit in ICE custody for weeks or months awaiting removal, Yiannopoulos was out of the country within a day of his arrest, a speed that has fueled questions rather than settled them. It's a strange coda for a man who spent years demanding exactly this kind of enforcement be applied to others. Whether he was flagged by a State Department contact, an outraged former colleague, or a rival influencer settling a score barely matters in the end; what's notable is how many people inside his own movement wanted him gone, and how openly they're fighting over who gets the credit. When the people building a deportation machine start pointing it at each other, that tells you something about where that movement actually is.
