The FDA has approved Bixlenvo, a new once-daily single-tablet treatment for HIV aimed at patients whose virus is under control but who haven't been able to use existing combination pills.

Built for the Patients Other Pills Left Behind

Most single-tablet HIV regimens work well for people who can tolerate standard drug combinations. Bixlenvo targets a different group: adults whose HIV is already suppressed but who, due to drug resistance or interactions, have been stuck on more complicated, multi-pill schedules.

Two Drugs, One Pill

Bixlenvo combines bictegravir, an integrase inhibitor already known as the backbone of Gilead's blockbuster Biktarvy, with lenacapavir, a capsid inhibitor that attacks the virus differently and doesn't share resistance with other antiretrovirals. Trial data, drawn from patients with a median age of 60 and long treatment histories, showed the combination held viral suppression steady through 48 weeks with no new safety concerns.

Pairing two drugs that hit HIV through separate mechanisms gives people who've run out of easy options a genuine new path forward.
