In an earlier interview, James described how living in the Atlanta suburbs felt restrictive, navigating what he called "the restraints that come with being a black gay male in the Georgia suburbs." He played sports out of social pressure, despite disliking them. Fitness, however, is different—it's something he genuinely enjoys on his own terms.
